About Me

Hello, my name is Mrs. Shawn M. Weisser and I am currently a Dean of Academic Supports and School Culture at River City Middle School. One of the roles of the dean is to step in when the assistant principal or principal are out of the building. The main focus is the behavior and academics of the students. I work with students to help them achieve success in the school as a student and in life as a developing adolescent. I spend my days in the classrooms, halls, and other common areas interacting with my 350+ students. The upcoming year will be my third year with the same group of students and I am very excited to see them go from silly/goofy tweens to solid teens and take control of their education.

I was the Lead Teacher-Librarian at Huguenot High School in Richmond, VA. My experiences at Huguenot High School as the head librarian included teaching and co-teaching classes in information literacy skills, MLA-Format Writing, Plagiarism Guidelines, Copyright Rules, and Using Google Tools, have been taught annually to all incoming students and teachers with follow-up lessons.

I have hosted events such as the Mental Health Awareness Day and had local business owners speak to students about starting a fashion design business and writing a book. At Huguenot I served as the advisor to the Student Council Association, assistant and head girls varsity volleyball coach, co-sponsor for the Chick-Fil-A Leader Academy, Helping Hands: School Culture and Climate committee member, a member of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) team, School Planning and Management Team (SPMT), the RPS Story Team for Huguenot High School, Testing Committee, and Chromebook management team.

In 2000, I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education with a minor in Social Studies, and in 2001, earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in US History from the University of Maine. I completed my Master of Library Science degree at North Carolina Central University in 2006 with a focus on school librarianship.  I hold a post-graduate professional teaching license with endorsements in History and Social Sciences, Pre-Kindergarten through 12 (PK12) in Library Media, an endorsement in TESOL, and an endorsement in Administration and Supervision through Longwood University and passed the SLLA 6990 exam in August of 2021.

I am originally from Mississippi and have lived in nine states and attended public schools in five of them. I am married to a web developer and my grown daughter is a UX/UI engineer consultant and designer. I am the happy grandpawrent to an incredibly unaffectionate shepsky by the name of Porcini.
